My story…

Since my schooldays I have had a passion for working with clay to produce designs and texture, my art school training was in graphics and design.

So, in my lovely home studio in a sleepy corner of Epsom, Surrey, I enjoy nothing more than getting my hands ‘dirty’ to create clay forms; a cup, a bowl, a plate...

Once I have a form, I use it to inspire a layout and a design.

Then, once the design is clear, I apply it to the form.

Until a piece is fired, I’m never entirely sure how it will look. Shape, colour, form and size all have to work together. So when it finally comes out of the kiln, and it works, by which I mean it really works, it is a pleasure, almost like nothing else.

The ripples of this pleasure are what I hope to pass on, a pleasure that you also see and feel and enjoy.

Plate designs

Each piece I make is handmade, either on the wheel or with slabs of clay and provides a ready canvas for my decorations which are often created from past themes.

Some of my best works are inspired by ideas from William de Morgan, the renowned English potter or the exquisite majolica-designed pottery that was produced by past Italians.

Some of my best ideas just come to me when I’m out walking or drinking a cup of tea… often these are the best.
